Why Metabolon?

Interpretation Services

According to our clients, Metabolon’s best-in-class data interpretation services have been the critical factor in their research success.

We offer four levels of interpretation with our Global Discovery Panel: 1) data only, 2) data + statistics, 3) data + interpretation, and 4) data + advanced interpretation.

Global Discovery Panel with advanced interpretation includes:

  • A comprehensive analysis of the metabolomics data with actionable biological insights and recommended next steps for your research.
  • Statistical analysis of your data with univariate significance tests (t-tests, ANOVA, repeated measures analysis, etc.) performed by our experienced informatics team.
  • Access to Metabolon’s Bioinformatics Platform through the MyMetabolon portal for visualizing and analyzing your study data.
  • Post-project support and live consultation with your study director to help answer any questions.

Brian Keppler

“Biochemical interpretation involves interrogating metabolomics data from our global untargeted analysis (an unrivaled platform of coverage and competency) and communicating the key findings and actionable insights to our clients. Metabolomics datasets are information-rich resources that can be overwhelming to an untrained eye. Thorough and efficient mining of such a data stream requires biochemical expertise in order to distill the vast amount of information in a focused and detailed manner. Metabolon’s interpretive capabilities ensure that our clients truly understand the data and comprehend its utility toward achieving their research objectives. Our goal is to go beyond delivering high-quality data by also providing knowledge.

The interpretation phase of a project is a very collaborative and iterative process—we strive to understand client needs and research objectives. We continuously ask ourselves: What can I do to contribute to this client’s success; what information can I generate for the client that they won’t need to generate on their own?

Basic project deliverables include the core data and a heat map with statistics and plots; but frankly, that’s what you get from most omics companies. In comparison, Metabolon uniquely provides a much deeper dive into client data—we decipher what all those data changes mean using our experience and institutional knowledge. We’re able to turn client data into powerful stories. The difference between just data and data with interpretation is like receiving a 1000-piece puzzle in a box that a client is left to assemble themselves versus a fully assembled puzzle that clearly illustrates the full picture. Many clients are genuinely surprised at the level of insight they receive from our interpretation services, particularly after they begin digesting the data themselves.”

Why Metabolon?

Once you see the full value of metabolomics, the only remaining question is who does it best? While many laboratories have metabolite profiling or analytical chemistry capabilities, comprehensive metabolomics technologies are extremely rare. Accurate, unbiased metabolite identification across the entire metabolome introduces signal-to-noise challenges that very few labs are equipped to handle. Also, translating massive quantities of data into actionable information is slow, if not impossible, for most because proper interpretation takes two things that are in short supply: experience and a comprehensive database.

Only Metabolon has all four core metabolomics capabilities

R

Coverage

Ability to interrogate thousands of metabolites across diverse biochemical space, revealing new insights and opportunities

R

Comparability

Ability to integrate the data from different studies into the same dataset, in different geographies, among different patients over time

R

Competency

Ability to inform on proper study design, generate high‐quality data, derive biological insights, and make actionable recommendations

R

Capacity

Ability to process hundreds of thousands of samples quickly and cost‐efficiently to service rapidly growing demand
