Metabolon HR Leadership: Culture, Performance, and Long-Term Impact

Celia Reyes

The Strategic Role of Human Resources (HR)

At Metabolon, HR is more than a function. It reflects a commitment to our people and to the larger purpose behind our work.

In a world shaped by constant innovation, we believe excellence begins with the human element. It is reflected in how we listen and how we support each person so they can do meaningful work and grow. Our aim is not only to be a strong workplace, but to create an environment where people feel recognized, appreciated, and motivated to give their best each day.

For me, that belief is deeply personal.

I have always felt a natural pull to share what I know and what I experience. Even as a child, I did that freely. For a long time, I wondered why it mattered so much to me. Over time, I came to understand that sharing creates connection. When you open up to others, they often respond with insights and experiences of their own. That exchange changes you. It expands the way you think and helps you grow in ways you could not have predicted.

That idea has shaped the professional I became.

Curiosity has guided me throughout my career. At times, I moved before I had formal permission, though never without intention. I learned early that thoughtful risk can lead to opportunities you never expected. That mindset gave me the chance to work alongside scientists and leaders with extraordinary vision. I saw people build organizations from the ground up, guide them through change, and establish them as respected forces within the scientific community.

If someone had told me then that I would one day become the Head of HR for a life sciences company, I probably would have laughed before allowing myself to imagine it. Today, I feel an enormous sense of gratitude. I am here because others paved the way before me and showed me what was possible.

My father has been one of the strongest influences on how I think. People often described him as deeply pragmatic. I did not fully recognize it at the time, but that perspective shaped me in lasting ways. It gave structure to my curiosity and helped me see the value of practical judgment.

Through every stage of my journey, one truth has remained steady: culture is created through connection and through the experiences people share.

Corporate Culture as a Business Driver

At Metabolon, that truth is visible every day.

We have built and continue to build a vibrant community that supports the pharma and biotech industries through partnerships that advance metabolomics science. Our reach extends beyond those spaces as well. We also work with areas such as pet health, skincare, and clinical diagnostics. What the Metabolon community contributes is not limited to science alone.  It is about using knowledge in ways that make a real difference in people’s lives.

When I joined Metabolon, my decision was not based only on logic. It was also driven by something instinctive. There is a spirit here that is difficult to describe, yet is immediately noticeable. You feel it in the people you meet and in the sense of shared purpose that runs through the organization.

That feeling mattered to me.

At the core, people want to feel that they belong. We want to know that our work matters and that we are part of something larger than ourselves. That sense of connection is deeply woven into who we are at Metabolon.

What makes this organization distinctive is its ability to unite scientific rigor with strong performance. We are rooted in discovery and committed to the integrity of our work. At the same time, we recognize that impact requires more than academic excellence. To remain relevant and effective, we must also think commercially and respond to a changing environment with agility.

That perspective does not diminish who we are. It strengthens our position and expands our ability to lead.

Our people sustain our culture. We rely on one another, and we benefit from the range of perspectives that shape how we think and innovate. At Metabolon, diversity includes background, but it also includes viewpoint, experience, and approach. Those differences strengthen our ability to solve difficult problems and deliver meaningful results.

Leadership, Responsibility, and the Future

If there is one lesson I continue to carry with me, it is the importance of openness. Listen with care. Slow down before making assumptions.  Leave room for perspectives that challenge your own, because progress often begins there.

Above all, share what you have learned. Do not hold your experiences too tightly. We have a responsibility to pass knowledge forward and to create room for others to grow. In doing so, we help build a culture where people feel confident in what they contribute and connected to the work around them.

In many ways, regardless of our role or title, we are all in sales – not in the traditional sense, but in how we communicate our values. We present our skills through our resumes, our thinking through our ideas, and our potential through how we engage every day. When we do this with clarity and authenticity, we strengthen not only our own impact but the impact of those around us.

We are a proud community at Metabolon. It is a place where science is tied to purpose and where people help shape what comes next through the way they show up for one another.

That is what makes this more than a workplace. It makes it a place we are proud to call our own.
