Metabolon’s Peak Science Grant

The Peak Science Grant reflects Metabolon’s commitment to advancing transformative science by empowering researchers with the tools, expertise, and metabolomics data needed to accelerate biological discovery.

Each quarter, Metabolon will select three finalists and award one winning project a fully funded metabolomics study.  The winning researcher or team will receive access to Metabolon’s analytical services, scientific expertise, data resources, and Integrated Bioinformatics Platform to help generate high-quality metabolomics data and translate complex results into meaningful biological insights.

The program is open to researchers seeking to use metabolomics to uncover new biology, strengthen an existing study, support translational discovery, generate preliminary data for future funding, or inform scientific decision-making.

Finalists will be invited to discuss their proposed project with Metabolon’s scientific and business development representatives. Finalists will also receive a 10% credit toward a future Metabolon project.

A Fully-Funded Metabolomics Study

The winning project will receive a Metabolon-supported metabolomics study at no cost, including access to Metabolon’s scientific expertise, analytical capabilities, bioinformatics tools, and data interpretation resources.

The grant award includes:

  • Consultation with Metabolon scientists on study design and statistical power
  • Metabolomics analysis of up to 100 qualified samples
  • Comprehensive project deliverables, including standard interpretation report and supporting datasets
  • Access to the Metabolon Integrated Bioinformatics Platform for data analysis and visualization
  • Scientific guidance for biological interpretation and downstream data analysis
  • A commemorative Metabolon Peak Science t-shirt

This support is designed to help researchers move confidently from discovery to interpretation with high-quality metabolomics data and expert scientific guidance.

Grant Eligibility, Criteria, and Dates

The Metabolon Peak Science Grant Program supports both basic and applied research that leverages metabolomics to advance biological discovery. We welcome applications from researchers in academia and industry working across disease biology, translational research, population health, microbiome research, nutrition, environmental health and related life science disciplines.

Eligibility

Eligibility considerations include:

  • The proposed study must include no more than 100 qualified samples.
  • Applicants must not have a current or ongoing project with Metabolon.
  • Metabolomics service providers, or projects submitted on behalf of metabolomics service providers, are not eligible to receive the award.
  • Proposed projects must be feasible within the scope of the grant award and the available sample set.

Selection Criteria

Applications will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Scientific Impact: Does the study have the potential to uncover new insights, advance biological understanding, or improve scientific decision-making?
  • Feasibility: Can the project be reasonably completed with the awarded resources, timeline, and available sample set?
  • Innovation: Does the approach demonstrate creativity, originality, or a novel use of metabolomics?

Key Dates

  • Metabolon will award one Peak Science Grant each quarter.
  • The submission deadline for the current quarter is September 30, 2026.
  • The submission deadline for the fourth quarter is December 31, 2026.
  • Applications will be reviewed promptly following each submission deadline.

Judging and Shortlisting

  • All applications will be reviewed by a panel of senior scientific leaders from Metabolon’s R&D, lab operations, and Discovery & Translational Sciences teams. Reviewers bring expertise across a broad range of diseases, research areas, biological themes, and applications.
  • Three finalists will be selected each quarter. Finalists will be invited to discuss their proposed project with a Metabolon scientific study director and business development representative. These discussions will help confirm project feasibility, timelines, sample requirements, and other study details before the final grant award winner is selected.
