Metabolomics

Metabolomics is the study of the small molecule biochemistry of an organism.  The goal of metabolomics is to understand the metabolic state of a subject by extracting, identifying, and quantifying all of the small molecule compounds (e.g. metabolites) in a biological sample.  To date, Metabolon has successfully analyzed blood, urine, crevicular fluid, amniotic fluid, cerebral spinal fluid (CSF), tissues (including kidney, liver, muscle, heart, brain, and skin), as well as a variety of cell cultures and plants.

Metabolon is the leading technology company developing proprietary analytical methods and software for biomarker discovery using metabolomics.  The company’s aim is to measure all small molecules (<1500 Daltons) in a biological sample.  This non-targeted approach identifies small molecule biochemical compounds of cellular metabolism as well as xenobiotics from diet and environment.  Our proprietary mLIMS™ system contains advanced metabolomic software and automated data processing tools that use a variety of data analysis and quality control algorithms to convert raw mass spectrometry data to identified and quantitated compounds.  These data are applied to Metabolon’s industry-leading library of named reference molecules so that biomarkers can be identified for the analysis of effected biochemical pathways and altered biological processes.

With the intelligence offered by Metabolon’s technology, scientists can confidently make project decisions to advance their research with confidence.
