Diagnostics
Metabolon's biomarker discovery platform is the engine driving the development of our diagnostic products. This metabolomics-driven profiling technology rapidly discovers biochemical biomarkers associated with a disease. Specific advantages of this approach include:
Wide Range of Biomarkers. Our global analysis results in the discovery of hundreds of disease-related biomarkers. More importantly, since the approach is non-targeted, the biomarkers represent a broad range of biochemicals, from lipids to amino acids to carbohydrates.
High Throughput. Since most of our analytical and informatics processes are fully automated, hundreds of samples can be run and analyzed in a single week. This enables processing of large batches of clinical samples, enhancing the statistical power of our discovery studies.
Quality Control and Statistics. A third of our analytical runs are devoted to standards, internal controls, and matrix blanks. This, combined with rigorous statistical analysis, provides significant confidence in the proper identification of biomarkers.
Any Sample. To discovery relevant biomarkers, being able to analyze a wide variety of sample types is essential. Our platform can analyze urine, plasma, CSF, or tissue.
Disease Context. By generating hundreds of biomarkers from a single sample, the biomarkers can be placed in the context of the disease. Typically, numerous markers along a specific pathway are identified. Since each marker is quantified relative to the normal sample, increases or decreases in markers can pinpoint disease-relevant biochemical markers.
The biomarker discovery platform has been used to find biomarkers for a number of diseases. These biomarkers are being incorporated into diagnostic tests for the following diseases:
