Grant Reminder

Metabolon offers global biochemical profiling services designed to help researchers understand biochemical pathway changes in a given complex biological system by analyzing relative fold changes between experimental and control groups. Metabolomics is a broad utility technology allowing for understanding of disease states*, toxicities, drug interactions, mechanism of action and a variety of other research areas.

The recently released Defense Appropriations Act announcement (please see bottom of page) provides $80 million to the Department of Defense Prostate Cancer Research Program (PCRP) to fund research that will eliminate death and suffering from prostate cancer. This program is administered by the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command through the Office of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP). A summary of PCRP funding opportunities is provided at the bottom of the page. Detailed descriptions of each of the funding opportunities, evaluation criteria, and submission requirements can be found in the FY10 PCRP Program Announcements (PAs).

Metabolon’s recent article in Nature outlines how unbiased metabolic profiling (metabolomics) has rapidly enhanced disease characterization and drug development. Should you be interested in incorporating metabolic profiling in your government award application, Metabolon welcomes the opportunity to work with you as a subcontractor. Note: Pre-application deadlines are early March. Please contact us if you are interested in this grant submission.

Using global metabolic profiling technology, tissue, urine and plasma samples were analyzed enabling researchers to identify a series of biochemicals (including sarcosine) that are key potential predictors of cancer aggressiveness. A summary of the paper, titled “Metabolomic profiles delineate potential role for sarcosine in prostate cancer progression" can be accessed on the Nature website or please email us below for a copy.

We welcome the opportunity to meet with you and your team to provide an overview of our global biochemical profiling services (Metabolon mView) designed to help researchers understand biochemical pathway changes in a given complex biological system by analyzing relative fold changes between experimental and control groups. Metabolomics is a broad utility technology allowing for understanding of disease states, toxicities, drug interactions, mechanism of action and a variety of other research areas.

Each PA is available electronically for downloading from the Grants.gov website ( http://grants.gov), the CDMRP website (http://cdmrp.army.mil/funding/pcrp.htm) and the CDMRP eReceipt System (< https://cdmrp.org >). Please note that the Idea Development, Synergistic Idea Development, and Impact Award funding opportunities require a pre-proposal (pre-application) that will be reviewed as described in the PAs. Submission of full proposals is by invitation only, and such applications for funding must be submitted through Grants.gov. All other PCRP funding opportunities require a letter of intent and all full proposals (applications) are welcome.

The remainder of the PCRP PAs will be released in mid-February 2010. These PAs will describe the Health Disparity Research Award, Health Disparity Training Award, Laboratory-Clinical Transition Award, Physician Research Training Award, Population-Based Research Award, and Prostate Cancer Training Award. Brief descriptions of each of these award mechanisms are available on the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs website at http://cdmrp.army.mil/pubs/press/2009/10pcrppreann.htm.  Additional notifications will be sent when the PAs for these award mechanisms are released.
